City of Concord opens applications for Spring 2026 Community Academy

Concord, California – The City of Concord is excited to announce that applications are now open for the Spring 2026 session of the Concord Community Academy. This unique program is open to those who live, work, or own a business in Concord and offers a chance to dive into the inner workings of the City.

Academy participants take part in discussions and activities with fellow community members and meet elected officials and staff to gain insight into how the city operates. The Concord Community Academy is designed to be an immersive, comprehensive experience, offering hands-on learning across every department. Highlights of the program include participating in a mock planning commission session, learning about city maintenance (fixing potholes, making street signs, cleaning up graffiti, etc.), and engaging in recreational activities organized by the City.

For the Spring 2026 Academy, six classes will be held from April 18 to May 9, and participants must be able to attend all classes. Three classes will be held on Saturdays during the day, while the other three will be held Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. The first session covers an introduction to local government, followed by a bus tour of the city and lunch.

The curriculum covers a wide range of topics crucial to the community, including public safety, economic development, recreation services, public works, budgeting and finance, city planning, and the development review process. The final class on May 9 will conclude with a tour of the former Naval Weapons Station, a wrap-up, and a graduation certificate presentation.

The program is free and open to applicants ages 18 years and older who live, work, or own a business in Concord. Space is limited.

The deadline for applications is Friday, March 6, 2026, at 5 p.m. For additional information or to apply online, visit cityofconcord.org/Academy.
