First responders successfully resolved a situation involving a man inflicting injuries on his body

Concord, California – After receiving numerous complaints of a man cutting his own neck with a sharp item at a gas station in the 5100 block of Clayton Road on Wednesday, Concord Police Dispatch sent officers to resolve the situation.

Emergency crews were also sent to the scene as the man was bleeding from the parts of his body where he had inflicted injuries.

Traffic around the area was shut down and redirected by police in order to solve the problem.

As soon as a trained member of the Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) arrived on the scene, he immediately started talking with the man in crisis, applying de-escalation techniques learned in training.

After approximately 15 minutes, the CNT officer was able to persuade him to drop the sharp item that was still in his arm, allowing emergency crews to transport him to the hospital for treatment. No officer was injured while de-escalating the situation. The man was taken into custody.

Once again, great effort from our first responders who addressed the situation successfully.
