Built on a site rich in history, the new administrative building once housed a much older office tower and a jail going back to 1902. Both buildings were destroyed to provide space for this creative endeavor built by Webcor and designed by Perkins&Will. As a modern marvel, the structure combines sustainability with cutting-edge design. Its low embodied carbon materials, responsibly sourced materials, and onsite photovoltaics for improved energy performance define a new benchmark for public buildings in the region.
Apart from its sophisticated architecture, the structure greatly improves the surrounding communal space. Along with roadway improvements and a sophisticated stormwater system meant to solve the particular groundwater issues and terrain of the location, it features a new public law library, ground floor retail spaces, and a parking garage.

With the new building, local officials are simplifying services and encouraging better community involvement with departments including the Public Defender, County Sheriff’s Civil Division, Office of Racial Equity and Social Justice housed here.
Apart from revitalizing the nearby historic plaza, the project promises to be pillar for government effectiveness and community interactions.
Members of the community are welcome to participate in the celebrations and see the opening of a structure capturing modernism meeting legacy. This event represents a major progress toward improving Contra Costa County’s municipal infrastructure and encouraging a more involved and serviced community.
