Armed man arrested after threatening people at an Emeryville hotel

Emeryville, California – An Emeryville hotel’s customers and employees experienced a frightening event where they were threatened and terrorized early Sunday morning by a man armed with a modified shotgun.

Police were able to put the terrifying scenario to an end without any harm to the parties involved.

Officers were sent to 5555 Shellmound Street at the Sonesta Hotel after receiving multiple reports of an armed man threatening people at the hotel.

Upon arrival, officers spotted the man walking in the hotel lobby with what appeared to be a modified shotgun. At one point, the suspect started waving the weapon.

Responding crews attempted to make contact with the suspect but unsuccessfully because the man was constantly walking throughout the lobby.

The standoff lasted for a couple of hours, and officers eventually entered the hotel after a drone provided by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office that was flown inside located the man sleeping in the lobby.

The suspect, 29-year-old Michael Valladareschirinos of Richmond, was arrested without any further incident. Police determined he was wanted on many outstanding warrants and is now facing various charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats, as well as possession of a modified shotgun and possession of a loaded firearm.

There were no injuries reported.
