City Council to vote on new cannabis storefront retail company on Tuesday’s meeting

Concord, California – The Concord City Council will vote on Tuesday on whether or not to allow a cannabis storefront retail company to relocate to the Park & Shop strip mall in the city.

Coastal Retail, based in Santa Barbara, wants to take over the space at 1847 Willow Pass Road, making it the third retail cannabis storefront business in Concord. The city established an ordinance in 2020 to allow three of these adult-only establishments in the city, as well as manufacturers, non-storefront shops, distributors, and microbusinesses, among other types of businesses.

To fill their limited storefront licenses, the city received 21 offers from businesses. Coastal was one of three companies selected, the others being Authentic Concord and Culture Club Corporate Enterprise.

The project was formally approved by the planning commission in December, and it was then sent to the city council for final approval. The commission recommended that the council clarify a number of concerns, including healthcare benefits, labor agreements, and issues related to change of ownership.

The Concord City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the meetings may be seen live on the city’s website. People may also participate through Zoom at https://bit.ly/3AtFf6B (webinar ID: 852 0909 3884; passcode: 286725).
