Deputies’ quick reaction saved a man at the Martinez Detention Facility who had overdosed

Martinez, California – On Tuesday morning, officers from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office brought a man back from the brink of death after he had suffered an overdose at the Martinez Detention Facility.

In a press statement, the Sheriff’s Office said that officers were contacted at around 7:10 in the morning that a 40-year-old man was unconscious in the facility’s sally port.

The individual was brought to the county jail after being arrested by the San Pablo Police Department earlier on. Two doses of the antidote Narcan, which is used to prevent fatal overdoses caused by opioids, were given to the individual by deputies.

The medical team from Contra Costa Health Services reacted quickly and delivered additional doses of Narcan. The man was taken to a hospital for recovery and was eventually released, according to the information provided by the Sheriff’s Office.
