Fire crews responded to a vegetation fire caused by illegal fireworks
Antioch, California – Fire crews in Contra Costa County responded to another vegetation fire overnight in Antioch. According to fire authorities, the fire was caused by illegal fireworks.
Firefighters from Contra Costa County and East Contra Costa County Fire Protection District were sent along James Dolan Road in Antioch in response to the vegetation fire. Just before midnight, the fire quickly spread across the dry grass in the eastern part of Contra Costa County.
Firefighters said that the blaze that was started by illegal fireworks spread over about two and a half acres of grass in windy circumstances before it was brought under control.
In order to be sure there were no hot spots and additional danger, firefighters stayed on the site into the early hours of Sunday.
Officials urge residents to report illegal fireworks through the new hotline established by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
