Contra Costa County residents encouraged to report illegal fireworks on new hotline
Contra Costa County, California – Illegal fireworks usage may now be reported to local law enforcement non-emergency lines through a new hotline established by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
The phone number to call if you suspect someone is using illegal fireworks is 1-833-885-2021.
Residents will be able to reach the relevant law enforcement number for their area by using the voice menu that is included with this line. All they have to do is type the first three letters of the name of their city. In addition to that, it gives callers the option of selecting an unincorporated region as their location, which then connects them to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.
In the previous year, celebrations that included fireworks required the district to respond to 53 reports of fires. Only vegetation was affected by 48 of the fires, while the remaining 5 affected structures.
Given the present drought conditions, the use of fireworks of any kind is not only against the law in Contra Costa County, but it also poses a significant risk. Anyone who sees fireworks being used is asked by Con Fire to call the number above to report the activity.
The Fire Investigation Unit of Con Fire is asking people to help the department fight against the dangerous use of illegal fireworks by calling the Arson Tip Line at 1-866-50-ARSON with information about sales of fireworks in all parts of the county.
Residents may leave a recorded message in either English or Spanish on fire-related criminal activities or sales of fireworks at the number 1-866-50-ARSON. Tips may be anonymous.
