Niles Canyon Road accident sends Fremont police officer to a trauma center

Fremont, California – An accident that occurred on Niles Canyon Road Saturday evening sent one police officer to a trauma center.

Niles Canyon Road was closed between Mission Boulevard in Fremont and Paloma Way in Sunol following the crash. The road is still closed to through traffic as of 9:30 p.m.

Fremont police officers were on Niles Canyon Road at 6:41 p.m. to assist Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies with a prowler call, according to a Fremont police spokesperson. A Fremont police officer was involved in a serious injury crash with another vehicle while responding to the incident on Niles Canyon Road west of Palomares Road.

The officer’s injuries were not life-threatening. A passenger in the other vehicle complained of pain and sought treatment at a local hospital.

As part of the Tri-City Accident Investigation Team, traffic police from the Newark Police Department have taken the lead on the investigation.
