Power pole downed after single vehicle crash, closes Moraga road

Lafayette, California – A single vehicle accident that knocked down a power pole and transmission cables on a major roadway between Lafayette and Moraga forced the closure of the road on Friday night.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Moraga Road between Rimrock Road and Lafayette was blocked, according to the Lafayette police department. A car collision occurred at the intersection of 777 Moraga Rd. Traffic was diverted at St. Mary’s Road in Lafayette, as well as Sky Hy Drive and Via Granada in Moraga, as a result of the accident.

As a result of the downed power lines and power pole, about 1,000 PG&E customers are without power as workers attempt to repair the pole and restore energy to the system. The road will reopen after the repairs are done.

Moraga Road was expected to reopen in the early hours of Saturday morning.
